The seven figures featured on our landing page, plus Roger Williams as a biochemical foundation. Follow the papers, check the edition, and distinguish clinical hypotheses from established evidence.

We study these sources as part of orthomolecular history, distinguishing established nutrient biology from observational findings and hypotheses that require further clinical evidence.

Abram Hoffer

Hoffer investigated niacin and nutritional approaches in psychiatry. His historical research helped shape the movement; it does not establish a modern general treatment standard for schizophrenia.

Frederick R. Klenner

Klenner published early clinical observations on vitamin C in infections and other conditions. Observational reports are part of the historical record; they are not evidence that vitamin C cures polio or other infections.

Robert F. Cathcart III

Cathcart described bowel tolerance and proposed explanations for high-dose vitamin C use during illness. The paper is a clinical hypothesis, not an established dosing guideline.

Carl C. Pfeiffer

Pfeiffer studied trace minerals and brain function and proposed biochemical classifications involving copper, zinc and histamine. Those classifications should be distinguished from currently validated psychiatric diagnoses.

William J. Walsh

Walsh developed a nutrient-focused biochemical framework for mental health. His work includes observational research and clinical hypotheses; associations between markers and symptoms do not by themselves establish causation.

Andrew W. Saul

Saul brought orthomolecular ideas to a broad readership through nutrition books and the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service. His popular education and advocacy should be read as such, rather than as clinical trial evidence.

Roger J. Williams

Williams emphasized biochemical individuality: people differ in their nutritional biology. He is included here as a biochemical foundation alongside the seven figures featured on the landing page.
